Matt Borer
Matt is a full time yoga instructor mainly in the Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow traditions. He likes to call his style of instruction “yoga mutt”; taking a little bit of information from every resource possible and integrating it into each class. With over 12 years of personal practice and over 9,000 hours of teaching time, there is a lot of experiential knowledge combined with compassion and patience to be had in his classes! You will laugh as hard as you work and will enjoy a wonderful sense of community, friendship, and self awareness throughout the process!
When not teaching, Matt can be found here in Austin playing music, two-steppin, kick boxing, and rock climbing wherever there is available rock! ”I spend most of my spare time practicing, rock climbing, and hanging out with my incredible wife Hannah. We have two adorable kitties that I personally spend way too much time hanging out with trying to teach them to speak english. You gotta have goals.”

Matt,
This will come as a shocker. Its Bo Miller. I say your parents once or twice over holidays and as always I get me 10 second Matt update.
So today i’m sitting here at work and I google “yoga” and hit the images button and guess who is staring back at me. you!!!!
I always get sidetracked reading blogs and seeing what others are up to so I have spent a little time reading yours.
Sounds like things are going well.
Good luck and have a great 2009.
BO
Ciao!~ I am interested in your classes…can you tell me what level you are teaching in the series? I started in Ashtanga years ago & would like to jump back into the practice.
Best, L’
Hello there! At the studio, KULA YOGA, I teach a couple different classes as far as Ashtanga is concerned, There is…
Level I – Primary Series with an eye toward folks that are new to it i.e., a bit mor explanation and a slightly shorter class.
Level II – Led Primary Series in its entirety.
Mysore – Self led practice assisted by me.
Privately my students have purely a Mysore approach and are working on various different Ashtanga Series.
Drop in anytime! Have great one! -ymb
Howdy Matt! I used to come to the Ashtanga series at YogaYoga but time and money constraints caused me to fall off my practice. That and working the night shift. Glad to see you’re teaching at another Austin location. Definitely always feel I learned a lot in your classes.
I’m looking to get back into the swing but I also moved. I’ll drop by some time and check out Kula.
Was hoping for an M-F Ashtanga class in the AM but haven’t seen one on the schedule. Anything similar to that in the morning?
One reason I wanted to go to Castle Hill was that they had the broadest Ashtanga program in Austin. I wanted my students to have more access to classes. They have an early Mysore class and and noon Mysore classes. They are great classes with great teachers! Stop in some time when you are in the area and say hi! All the best and Happy Holiday season!
Matt, I met you at a workshop you did in Georgetown a few weeks ago. Do you teach any weekend classes in Austin? I’d love to come down once a month or so and continue working with you (I’m in Waco).
thanks,
Stephen R.
Hey there! If you look at the other page of this blog entitled “Me and My Schedule”, you will find my full schedule here in Austin as well as links and info. to those studios! Hope to be back in Georgetown again in December too!
Hello, I just moved to Cedar Park from Maui Hawaii, and back home I was very into freediving and spearfishing, and since that is pretty much non-existent here I still want to work on my breath control. I’ve been told that many freedivers practice pranayama yoga to strengthen their breath. Do you offer such classes as this?
Matt,
I saw that you had a workshop about the physics of yoga and I am interested in how it went, the material that you covered, and the interest that you have in such matters. I have a degree in physics and have been teaching since 2003 and have been working on some material myself. From what I taught it seems that this is an avenue to empower people with physics rather than paralyzing their minds or their bodies.
