The title being a Monty Python reference… hopefully at least someone gets it! VERY psyched for a totally new and partly silly workshop! Come play and be serious and extremely silly. Brave the peril. Bring a shrubbery. Follow the gourd. Blessed are the cheesemakers!

I have always been a huge proponent of emphasizing the balance of the serious and silly that we find in both yoga and in life. I feel that a yoga practice should be capable of embracing both. Along those lines, I present to you a special class that balances practicing serious and challenging postures and concepts as well as some of the sillier postures and concepts out there. We will be tag teaming this with a soundtrack of great inspirational tunes interspersed with comedic ones. Come prepared to work hard, be irreverent, and take yourself seriously whilst laughing at the ridiculousness of taking yourself seriously!

Teaching another intro/beginner Ashtanga Yoga workshop! Love this studio and the Georgetown yoga community! If you have not made the tiny trip from Austin yet, now is the time! Bringing my baby daughter Lottie up there as well to meet the Georgetown crew! Carpool anyone?

March 24th, 2-4:30

MORE Intro to Ashtanga Yoga with Matt Borer
The Hatha yoga practice known as Ashtanga, is a set sequence of asanas practiced in the same order using the coordination of breath and movement (vinyasa). It is considered the origin of vinyasa or flow styles of yoga. The constant movement and particular style of breathing (ujjayi) WILL create a certain amount of internal heating in the body and thus a self heated cleansing practice! This classical system of yoga has been passed down to us from Sri T. Krishnamacharya and the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009).
In this workshop we will explore the unique and challenging Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. There will be plenty of explanation concerning history, philosophy, and theory behind this practice as well as moving through the sequence of asana.

A Vinyasa Yoga Primer with Matt
Date: Sat 8/27/2011
Time: 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Vinyasa yoga is the art of intimately linking breath and movement during a flowing asana practice! This style of practice creates almost a moving rhythmic dance as well as generating heat and energy. In this workshop we will spend some time learning and practicing extremely useful concepts such as bandha (energetic locks), pranayama (breathwork), and dristi (focal point) to draw as much from the practice as we can. We will then move through a powerful sequence of postures using this information and make our way to a guided relaxation (savasana). Come prepared to work, quite possibly sweat, and move around to some fun music! Hope to see you there! Cost is $25 before 8/27, $30 after.
