What an awesome article. I teach both Kundalini and Hatha Yoga in South Florida where we have many teachers who feel that you are not teaching unless you are forcing students to be in perfect alignment in the asanas. I often struggle within myself because I'm much more comfortable giving verbal ques, demonstrating the different levels of the postures, and offering props. I'm a nurse and currently acquiring a masters degree in Oriental Medicine, so I have a lot of anatomy training, but I feel you are absolutely right. "Unless you have x-ray vision for anatomy, you have no idea what is truly going on in their body."

wow. this was fantastic. As a student who has been pushed by instructors before, I spent two entire years avoiding classes due to a traumatic yoga experience.

One in particular involved a local (popular) instructor informing me (after I told him that I was uncomfortable doing a particular pose as I was afraid, and trying not to hyperventilate) that "There is no modification for fear, you either do the pose or you don't".

Needless to say my practice that day became trying to find the positive in any situation.

Thank you

Blessings :)
